This week, Petaluma has created more than a dozen ways to raise money for the Petaluma Educational Foundation in the first ever PEF Week.
Founded in 1982, PEF was started by a group of teachers, business leaders, and community activists to find solutions for the funding of schools in Petaluma. This foundation has become even more important as school funding has been stripped dramatically. PEF is privately funded, meaning they rely on help from the community to keep programs in the schools that would have been otherwise taken away.
“PEF Week is an exciting new initiative to boost existing fundraising efforts that take place throughout the year,” said PEF Executive Director, Janet Ramatici. “We are delighted with the level of response within the business community in support of this first, ever PEF Week and look forward to our new educational fundraising program growing substantially over the next few years as more business owners come on board.”
This year, 16 businesses have stepped up to be included in PEF Week, offering ways for your dollars to help fund PEF and keep the educational needs of our schools intact.
Participating businesses include:
Aqus Café at Foundry Wharf: Donating all monies in PEF Week counter-top tip jar during entire PEF Week. 189 H Street, Petaluma
Alphabet Soup Thrift Store: Special storewide sales and counter-top tip jar throughout entire PEF Week, with 100% of profits directly benefitting PEF. 217 Western Ave, Petaluma
Bici Sport: Donating 10% of gross receipts of bicycle services, including repairs and tune-ups between September 20th through 24th, 2011 (scheduling conflicts prohibited participation during regular PEF Week dates). 143 Kentucky St, Petaluma
Bus Stop Coffee: Donating 10% of sales for the entire PEF Week. 40 4th St, Petaluma

Mike’s Barber Shop: Donating 10% of profits for entire PEF Week. 741 Western Ave, Petaluma

The first 100 PEF supporters to stop by the Management Office at Petaluma Village Premium Outlets during PEF Week will pick up a special discount coupon book for outlet store shopping. 2200 Petaluma Blvd. North, Petaluma
