If you find yourself with sweaty palms and a deer-caught-in-the-headlights eyes as you wander aimlessly the weekend before Valentine’s Day, you are probably a guy searching for the perfect gift inside of a lingerie store. If this is you, I just have one thing to say….
Put down the crotchless panties and just walk away.
Actually, I have several things to say. First of all, you’re in the right shop. So don’t leave. But you’re searching for the wrong thing. If you think your girl is going to fall deeper in love with you when she pulls some raunchy skivvies that were last seen on your favorite porn star, you’ve some serious delusions bud.
Sure, women want to feel sexy. But with the fairer gender, feeling sexy begins with the mind. So pay close attention, and take some notes.
1. Ok, so the dominatrix outfit is out. But that doesn’t mean sexy is out. If it’s going to make her shy away, i.e. is way too revealing in all the wrong areas, don’t buy it. Lingerie should play up her best assets, not make her run for cover. Is she proud of her rack? Buy a lacy push-up bra. Have a rockin’ backside? Those peekaboo boy shorts are hot. Is she a bit modest? A sheer gown feels concealing while still revealing.
2. Think lace. Think jewels. Think of what is going to make her feel totally beautiful as she disrobes and models the gift you bought her. Lingerie is like jewelry for the body. So avoid the more plain styles and go for something feminine, beautiful, and that causes whiplash.
3. Now is not the time for neutral tones. White, natural…boring. Not to mention, totally lacking in sex appeal. Go red, black, pink. Get her something in a bright, loud color. This is not about practicality, it’s about stepping out of the normal, everyday zone into something more hot and passionate.
4. Size matters, as in your girl will not be able to wear something that doesn’t fit. If you’re thinking ahead, you’ve already scoped out the size she wears on her bra. If you’re like the other 90% of males, you’re totally unarmed (hence, the aimless wandering). There is no shame in talking to a similarly sized salesgirl, or pointing out photos of women who seem to be the same size as your girl.
5. Go for the high-end brand names. If you know the label your lady loves wearing, perfect! If not, don’t worry. But don’t just buy the cheapest lingerie you can find, either. No lady is going to exclaim anything positive over Hanes or Fruit of the Looms. This is a gift you want your lady to wear, and quality counts. That means regular department stores are out, and specialty lingerie shops are the only place you should be shopping. As you shop, feel the quality of fabric and placement of underwires. When in doubt ask the sales staff.
6. Most important, utilize the sales staff!!!! Get rid of your bravado and let the staff guide you towards something of luxury that will have your girl brimming in romance…resulting in the sexiness you intended in the first place. And I think it’s worth mentioning that help from the staff will have you in and out of the store much faster than going it alone.
